A. Dawson Lightfoot

Mr. Lightfoot’s practice comprises procuring patents and trademarks, providing opinions on patent and trademark matters, procuring copyrights, drafting copyright and trademark agreements, and counseling clients on business decisions related to intellectual property matters. Mr. Lightfoot has experience in an exceptionally broad range of technical arts, including aerospace systems, medical systems, hydrocarbon collection systems, consumer products, electrical systems and connectors, multimedia delivery and display systems, distributed network systems, business methods, and numerous other mechanical, electrical, electro-mechanical, electro-optical, and software related technologies. Mr. Lightfoot has vast experience in serving a variety of clients ranging from independent inventors and artists to international corporations. While Mr. Lightfoot’s practice is largely focused on patent prosecution, he is often relied upon by clients and colleagues for his experience in both the trademark and copyright realms. Further, Mr. Lightfoot is consistently looked to as a resource for handling unique and challenging issues that require expert research and sound judgment.

Since 2004, Mr. Lightfoot has actively served in the State Bar of Texas Intellectual Property Section on a variety of committees to produce newsletters, maintain websites, enable communication to the more than two thousand members, and to review scholarly article submission for the Texas Intellectual Property Law Journal. Presently, Mr. Lightfoot serves as Chair of the Membership Committee and continues to actively offer support to section officers and other committee chairs. Mr. Lightfoot also regularly serves on continuing legal education event planning committees and often moderates portions of the events.

Since 2006, Mr. Lightfoot has actively supported a variety of organizational programs and operations for the American Intellectual Property Law Association. As a member of the Mid-Winter Institute Planning Committee, Mr. Lightfoot assisted in the creation of and continues to support a now yearly “Table Talk Luncheon” which provides a unique venue for hundreds of intellectual property practitioners to chat with subject matter experts of all areas of intellectual property law. Mr. Lightfoot also actively participates as a member of the Trademark Law Committee where he maintains a website for use in disseminating important trademark practice related information to both members and the public. Mr. Lightfoot has also previously supported the objectives of the Public Education Committee by assisting in the development and dissemination of educational material to public and private schools for presentation to young children.
