Derek Nelson is counsel in the Benefits & Compensation Practice Group of Davis & Gilbert. Mr. Nelson's practice focuses on a broad range of employee benefits disciplines including advising on tax and administrative matters involving qualified retirement, welfare and fringe benefit plans; stock options, phantom stock, restricted stock and other cash and equity-based incentive plans. In particular, he has extensive experience in advising and consulting clients on employee benefits and executive compensation issues arising in mergers and acquisitions, involving administrative compliance and fiduciary responsibility matters related to qualified benefit plans.
In addition, Mr. Nelson assists clients with the review and negotiation of their administrative services agreements, such as, plan trust agreements, business associates agreements, recordkeeping agreements, fiduciary liability insurance policies and stop-loss insurance policies. He also provides pro bono assistance for homeowners in foreclosure at the Foreclosure Project at the City Bar Justice Center.
Mr. Nelson is a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP). Before joining Davis & Gilbert, he was a director of compensation at two national broadcasting/entertainment corporations and worked as an executive compensation and benefits consultant at a leading national actuarial, benefits and compensation consulting firm.
