Aaron W. Moore

Aaron Moore is a partner and intellectual property lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP. He focuses his practice on patent litigation, as well as on patent and trademark prosecution and counseling. Mr. Moore is a member of the firm’s IP Litigation and Electronics Practices and the Technology Industry Team.

Prior to joining Foley, Mr. Moore was a founding member of Lowrie, Lando & Anastasi, LLP. He has represented a diverse array of clients, including manufacturers of medical devices, computer hardware and software, sporting goods, industrial machinery, water filtration equipment, floor coverings, lighting fixtures and systems, and climate control equipment.

Mr. Moore’s patent litigation experience includes a wide range of subject matters, including integrated circuit bus protocols, ink cartridges, fiberglass doors, LED lighting systems, medical devices, abrasive blast equipment, and various types of computer hardware and software. He has been involved in patent litigation proceedings before federal district courts across the country, including in the Eastern District of Texas and the Western District of Wisconsin, as well as in the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and before the United States International Trade Commission.

He has prosecuted U.S. and foreign patents on technologies ranging from medical devices and snowboarding equipment to computer software, and has handled appeals to the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences and the Federal Circuit, as well as numerous ex parte and inter partes patent reexaminations.

His practice also includes assisting companies in protecting their trademark rights, including matters involving claims of trademark infringement, dilution, and cybersquatting. Mr. Moore’s experience has covered all facets of trademark litigation, including enforcement and active litigation in federal court and before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Mr. Moore also has devoted a substantial portion of his practice to helping companies avoid potential infringement issues, both by working closely with clients during the development process to arrive at non-infringing products and product names and, in some cases, by providing detailed analyses in the form of written clearance opinions.

Recognition

Mr. Moore was selected for inclusion in the 2005 and 2006 Massachusetts Super Lawyers – Rising Stars® list in the areas of intellectual property and intellectual property litigation.

Education

In 1997, Mr. Moore received his J.D., cum laude, from the Boston University School of Law, where he was an editor of the Boston University Law Review. In 1992, he obtained his B.S. in aerospace engineering from the Boston University.

Admissions and Professional Memberships

Mr. Moore is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts in Massachusetts and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and he is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of the Boston Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Intellectual Property Owners Association, and the Boston Patent Law Association.
