Anderson T. Bailey

Anderson Bailey practices as a general litigator, with a particular focus on product liability and appellate litigation. He has represented clients in the United States Supreme Court, as well as the highest courts of California, Connecticut, and Mississippi, has served as lead counsel in matters before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third and Sixth Circuits, and has had primary responsibility for discovery and dispositive motion practice in matters pending at the trial court level.

Some of Anderson's representative engagements include assisting with a two-week employment discrimination jury trial, in which Jones Day's client prevailed on claims seeking more than $2 million in damages; helping to draft post-trial motions that resulted in an order vacating a $20 million punitive damages award against an aircraft engine component manufacturer; and successfully opposing a petition for certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court, thereby preserving a favorable judgment for Jones Day's client in the Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.

Anderson also has an active pro bono practice. In 2011, he successfully argued a motion for summary judgment for a client claiming that the denial of post-conviction DNA testing violated his right to procedural due process. Anderson also has briefed and argued novel issues of constitutional law to the Third Circuit and represented amici curiae in cases pending before the Supreme Court. In addition, he coordinates a program in Jones Day's Pittsburgh Office that, in conjunction with local government officials, helps return blighted properties in Allegheny County to productive use.
