Andrew E. Rawlins is a partner and patent lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP. He is vice chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Department.
Mr. Rawlins has over 25 years of experience in the patent field. Before joining the firm, he served as a patent examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Since joining the firm, Mr. Rawlins has conducted patent litigations, including trials and arguments before various trial courts and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He now maintains a practice involving strategic business counseling on patent issues, including a focus on patent procurement and portfolio management, technology agreements, and opinions on validity and infringement. He has significant experience with both utility and design patents.

With regard to the underlying technology, Mr. Rawlins has particular experience with medical devices, and he is the chair of the firm's Medical Device Initiative and a member of the Life Sciences Industry Team. He also represents a major automotive supplier and is a member of the Automotive Industry Team. Mr. Rawlins has further experience with optics and products for certain commercial and institutional markets. His work with design patents includes representation of companies in the fashion industry.
