Andrew J. Sloniewsky

Andrew J. Sloniewsky is of counsel in Steptoe's Washington office where he focuses on complex commercial litigation matters. In the course of his career, Mr. Sloniewsky has handled a broad variety of business disputes in federal and state courts throughout the country. His experience includes litigating lawsuits relating to real estate, venture capital, and manufacturing contracts, as well as suits raising antitrust, fraudulent conveyance, bankruptcy, securities fraud, trademark, unfair competition, and intra-corporate and intra-partnership fiduciary issues.

Mr. Sloniewsky also possesses considerable experience representing insurance carriers in coverage litigation arising from environmental, asbestos, and property loss. He has defended carriers against claims alleging fraudulent settlement, bodily injury, and improper claims-handling practices. He also helped a large insurer coordinate its nationwide asbestos tort defense efforts.

Mr. Sloniewsky has handled all aspects of the litigation process, from pre-pleading investigation, through requests for emergency injunctive relief, pretrial discovery, motions practice, trial, appellate argument, and settlement. He has organized and overseen numerous large discovery and investigative document reviews, including in response to so-called second requests issued by governmental entities in the pre-merger context. In addition, Mr. Sloniewsky has litigated several disputes in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, frequently considered the court with the nation’s fastest docket.
