Angelo has experience in various types of commercial litigation, with an emphasis on antitrust and unfair competition matters. He has handled criminal and civil antitrust matters in federal and state courts, and before arbitration tribunals. He has represented plaintiffs and defendants in cases involving international cartels, price fixing, territorial and customer allocations, tying arrangements, exclusive dealing contracts, bundled discounts, monopolization, and unfair and deceptive trade practices. A number of these cases were class actions.
In addition, Angelo has counseled clients on antitrust compliance matters and has drafted and implemented national and international antitrust compliance programs and audits. He also has counseled clients regarding distribution relationships, including distributor agreement formation and enforcement, distributor terminations, and distributor communications. Further, Angelo has experience in other commercial litigation matters. He has handled cases in federal and state courts involving breach of contract, civil RICO litigation, healthcare litigation, false claims and qui tam litigation, and white-collar criminal defense.
Along with a McGuireWoods team, Angelo helped secure a May 2010 victory on behalf of Jo Tankers before the U.S. Supreme Court in Stolt-Nielsen v. Animalfeeds Int'l, 130 S. Ct. 1758 (2010), which held that the respondents could not be compelled under the Federal Arbitration Act to engage in class arbitration where the arbitration agreement was silent on the issue of class arbitration.
Angelo will serve as a vice chair of the Business Torts and Civil RICO Committee of the American Bar Association, Antitrust Section, starting in September 2012. He currently serves as the Young Lawyer representative to the Corporate Counseling Committee of the ABA Antitrust Section. He served as the chairman of the Chicago Bar Association’s Antitrust Law Committee between 2009 and 2010. He has been honored as a fellow in the Litigation Counsel of America Trial Honor Society.
