Ms. Lewis-Gruss
focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation, with an emphasis on international arbitration and disputes involving foreign investments and insurance coverage issues. She has represented clients in state and federal court, and before the Internal Revenue Service. Ms. Lewis-Gruss has also represented parties in arbitrations held under the auspices of the International Chamber of Commerce and the American Arbitration Association, as well as non-administered arbitrations conducted under UNCITRAL and other rules.
Representative Matters
International Arbitration
Ms. Lewis-Gruss represents a major European telecommunications concern in connection with disputes arising out of various shareholders agreements to which her client is party. Ms. Lewis-Gruss has represented Orrick's client in federal court and in two UNCITRAL arbitrations.
Ms. Lewis-Gruss represented a U.S. investor in an ad hoc proceeding against the Commonwealth of Dominica arising out of the expropriation of the local electric utility.
Ms. Lewis-Gruss represented a U.S. pulp manufacturer in a contract dispute with a U.S. paper manufacturer, before the ICC.
Insurance Recovery
Ms. Lewis-Gruss represented Wyeth (now Pfizer) in a series of insurance coverage disputes arising out of mass torts involving products such as PPA, Prempro and Premarin, Duract and Thimerosal-containing vaccines. Ms. Lewis-Gruss also represented Wyeth in an arbitration conducted in Bermuda arising out of mass torts involving Norplant.
Ms. Lewis-Gruss represented a mining company in insurance coverage disputes arising out of mass torts. The disputes have been heard in multiple states courts and in an arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association.
Throughout her career, Ms. Lewis-Gruss has advised other entities on insurance coverage matters, including a telecommunications and media company, a winery and a non-profit organization.
General Commericial Matters
In federal court, Ms. Lewis-Gruss represented a retailer in a commercial dispute against its lenders and suppliers.
In state court, Ms. Lewis-Gruss represents a German bank in connection with a suit brought by a former employee.
Ms. Lewis-Gruss represented a Big Four firm with regard to issues of accountant's liability.
Before joining Orrick as an associate, she was a summer associate in the New York office in 2001.
