Basheer Ghorayeb is an experienced trial lawyer, representing clients in a wide variety of complex business disputes and investigations. He has experience with disputes involving oil & gas, breach of contract, intellectual property, and product liability law. He also represents clients in internal and government investigations. He has represented clients in the energy, financial, manufacturing, transportation, retail, real estate, and technology sectors.
Prior to joining Jones Day, Basheer defended clients in the oil & gas sector in multiple cases involving the Eagle Ford shale play in South Texas; advised a pipeline company on regulatory issues and condemnation law; obtained a favorable jury verdict and judgment in a minority shareholder dispute; defended a railroad in a jury trial over a railroad employee's Federal Employer Liability Act claim, obtaining a verdict that awarded less in damages than the client's pretrial settlement offers; represented a frozen dessert franchisor in breach of contract disputes against franchisees, negotiating favorable settlements; and represented a landlord in a breach of contract case against a former tenant, obtaining a favorable jury verdict. He also represented clients in patent cases involving data storage, aircraft maintenance software, and other technologies.
Basheer is active in the Energy Litigation Committee of the ABA Section of Litigation, serving as co-editor of the Energy Litigation Journal. He also contributes significant time to pro bono cases and serves as the pro bono coordinator for Jones Day's Dallas Office.
