Benjamin Matthew Halpern

Benjamin Halpern has over 15 years experience in the field of patent law with emphasis on strategic patent prosecution. Mr. Halpern is a former Patent Examiner at the U.S. Patent Office, and uses his Patent Office knowledge to acquire effective patent protection for clients in an efficient and cost-conscious manner. He strives to completely understand the inventive technology and the client’s business goals so as to build a strong and diversified patent portfolio.

Mr. Halpern, who holds a Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering, has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications in the U.S. and internationally in a broad range of technologies, including semiconductor memory devices, liquid crystal and plasma displays, nanotechnology, medical devices and business methods. He has also drafted and obtained patents involving computer-based inventions, including software-based inventions directed to database management, Internet and other network-based search algorithms, graphic user interfaces, and computerized manufacturing environments. His clients range from individual inventors to large global corporations.

Mr. Halpern advises engineers, scientists and management on patent strategy. He leverages his patent prosecution knowledge and experience to provide clients with detailed opinions regarding the patentability of client innovations and the right to use proposed commercial concepts. He represents parties in appeals to the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and in post-issuance proceedings, including reissue and reexamination proceedings.
