Berry D. Spears, a Partner in the Austin office of Locke Lord LLP, has been acknowledged as a well-regarded legal practitioner from his 30 years of experience representing clients in restructuring matters in numerous industries and commercial sectors, including technology, telecommunications, real estate, retail, distribution, food services, manufacturing, and energy/oil and gas. Experience in the electric utility industry, working with companies, cooperatives and independent power producers in a variety of matters
Leading the country's first restructuring of a significant "roll-up" in the residential and commercial plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) market segment
Serving as debtors' counsel in the reorganization of the largest bankruptcy case ever filed in the state of Texas
Representing a major drilling contractor with operations in the Gulf of Mexico in its Chapter 11 case.
Counseled and resolved a lawsuit brought by a Chapter 11 post-confirmation Litigation Trust against a major energy company seeking over $1.3 billion as a purported fraudulent transfer
Represented numerous cooperatives and independent power producers
Represented El Paso Electric Company in its Chapter 11 bankruptcy case
Representation of a board member cooperative and major creditor in the Cajun Electric Company bankruptcy case
Represented the Trustee in the liquidation and disposition of major energy-related assets
