Bruce D. DeRenzi

I currently serve as corporate litigation counsel in the pharmaceutical industry, concentrating primarily on patent and Lanham Act litigation, and in particular, litigation involving drug products brought under the Hatch-Waxman Act..

Prior to joining corporate life, I had more than 25 years of law firm experience representing multinational, domestic, and start-up companies, I routinely served as lead attorney directing all aspects of IP litigation.

Mr. Bruce DeRenzi has been employed at Crowell & Moring LLP in the position of Partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Group in New York since November 2006. He specializes in patent litigation and counseling for both U.S. and foreign companies. Bruce earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering from Manhattan College in 1980 and a Juris Doctorate degree from New York Law School in 1987, graduating with honors. Prior to pursuing a career in law, Mr. DeRenzi worked as a chemical process engineer for a leading consumer products company. He has extensive experience in all aspects of patent litigation in the Federal Courts and International Trade Commission, from pre-suit investigations through trial and appeal. He has litigated patent cases, for both plaintiff and defendant, involving a wide array of technologies including petroleum products and processes (zeolite cracking catalysts, carbide blast joints), chemical products and processes (titanium dioxide pigments, automotive paints and finishes, herbicides and fungicides), consumer products (disposable diapers, bath tissue), printing systems (printing ribbons and inks), mechanical devices and processes (personal watercraft, wood chip densifiers), electronic devices (light emitting diodes, laser eye surgery apparatus, semiconductor chips) and pharmaceutical products (including Paragraph IV filings under the Hatch-Waxman Act). In addition to litigation, his practice involves rendering opinions relating to patent validity, enforcement and infringement, and providing strategic advice to companies directed to the development and management of their intellectual property portfolios. Bruce also has experience in complex proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including patent reexamination and reissue proceedings. Mr. DeRenzi is admitted to the New York and New Jersey bars, and is admitted to practice before the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the District of New Jersey and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Bruce is also registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of the New York Intellectual Property Association, the New Jersey Intellectual Property Association, the American Intellectual Property Association and the Federal Circuit Bar Association.
