Bryce A. Budin

I have a well-rounded practice that includes both counseling clients on technology and commercial transactions and complex technology-related litigation.

As an experienced Intellectual Property lawyer, I have represented clients in a full scope of subject matters including patents, contracts, antitrust, audits, injunctions, and trade secret misappropriation. I have counseled on agreements, portfolio evaluation, competitive landscape analysis, and evaluation of existing and potential agreements. My practice spans a diverse range of technologies including the software, chemical and mechanical industries.

In my transactional practice, I counsel clients on a variety of commercial agreements, including identifying issues, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements. Typical contracts include software license agreements, patent license agreements, service agreements, consulting agreements, and supplier agreements. I have represented transactional clients in industries including:

Financial services, including securities trading and investing
Medical and dental claims processing
Healthcare revenue management
Industrial packaging

My litigation experience comprises a full scope of services including, pre-filing investigations, discovery, depositions, motion practice, technical expert work, economic expert work, claim construction briefings and hearings, jury trial, Federal Circuit appeal, and Supreme Court writ of certiorari. In addition to litigations related to patent infringement, I also have experience in disputes related to licenses, audits, inventorship, trade secrets and antitrust. I have extensive experience representing clients in U.S. District Courts throughout the country, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. International Trade Commission, as well as in Arbitration proceedings. My extensive patent litigation experience includes representing some of the nation’s largest companies in complex, multi-patent, cases.

Prior to joining the firm, I was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP in Chicago. I earned my J.D. at the University of Illinois magna cum laude, where I was an editor on the Illinois Law Review, and my B.S. in engineering from the University of Michigan. I am also a co-founder and member of the Board of Directors of Chicago Women in IP (www.ChiWIP.org) and co-chair of the Family Involvement Group (FIG) at the Bernard Weinger JCC in Northbrook, Illinois.
