Charles C. Jackson

Charles C. Jackson is a partner in Morgan Lewis's Labor and Employment Practice. Mr. Jackson is co-chair of the LEPG's Employee Benefits Litigation Practice.

Mr. Jackson concentrates his practice on class action and complex employee benefits litigation. He represents plan sponsors, employers, service providers, and insurers in ERISA litigation and church plans in complex non-ERISA benefits litigation. Mr. Jackson has 37 years of trial experience, having tried numerous jury and other cases, including class actions, to verdict. He has handled dozens of cases before federal and state appellate courts and has served as counsel in significant labor, employment, and ERISA cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Mr. Jackson has served as lead counsel in numerous precedent-setting ERISA cases including Hecker v. Deere (rejecting claims that excessive fees were charged participants on retirement plan investments); DiFelice v. US Airways (defense trial verdict in class action challenge to employer stock investments); Brieger v. Tellabs (same); Quan v. Computer Sciences Corporation (Ninth Circuit adopts Moench presumption of prudence when rejecting on summary judgment class employer stock claims); Brubaker v. Deere (defense verdict in ERISA retiree medical benefits class action trial); and Johnson v. Board of Pensions of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (refusing to certify as class action claims that Board improperly reduced annuity benefit payments in light of adverse market conditions).

Mr. Jackson is a member of the board of directors of Cabrini Green Legal Aid, which provides legal services to Chicago's poorest citizens. He has served CGLA in various capacities throughout his legal career. He has had a variety of significant pro bono representations, including a lawsuit on behalf of CGLA clients seeking to force former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich to rule on clemency petitions reviewed by the Prisoner Review Board as required by Illinois law.

Mr. Jackson is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the District of Columbia, Second, Third, Fourth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, Tenth, and Eleventh Circuits.

Mr. Jackson is ranked in the top tier nationally for ERISA litigation in Chambers USA 2014. He is also recognized as an ERISA litigation "Leading Lawyer" in the 2014 Legal 500. He is also recognized as one of the nation's most powerful employee benefits and ERISA attorneys by Human Resource Executive for 2014.

Mr. Jackson is a fellow of The College of Labor & Employment Lawyers.
