Chris P. Kallos

Chris Kallos

is recognized internationally as one of the top U.S. attorneys in the area of private investment fund formation and management. As a leader of Kirkland’s Private Funds Group, he has been instrumental over the course of two decades in developing Kirkland’s industry-leading global practice.

In addition to his private funds work, Chris oversees M&A, financing, securities, intellectual property, litigation, restructuring, tax, estate planning and other matters for a wide-range of clients, including private equity funds and their current and former portfolio companies.

In recommending Chris as an “exceptional” practitioner (The Legal 500 U.S. - 2013), clients praised his “excellent commercial judgment” (Chambers USA - 2011) -- noting that “he really cuts through to the problem and finds a solution” (The Legal 500 U.S. - 2009).

Chris is described as a "good counselor with good bedside manner" who is "exceptionally available" (Chambers USA - 2014). He is praised for his "outstanding depth of experience in fund formations, spinouts and operations" (Chambers Global - 2013) and his “excellent feel for the market and the broader business points” (Legal 500 - 2014). Chris has advised "a range of major private equity firms" (Chambers USA - 2009), as well as emerging managers, in connection with forming more than $50 billion of buyout, growth equity, debt, secondary, venture, technology, real estate and other funds ranging in size from $100 million to over $6 billion.

In addition to leading their fund formation matters, Chris counsels his fund sponsor clients on a wide variety of operational issues and extraordinary events, including key person events, succession planning, spin-outs, strategic investments in fund management companies, executive retention, change of control transactions and conflict resolution. Chris also represents select limited partners in connection with their fund investments, co-investments, secondary transactions and internal operations.
