Christopher N. Skey

Christopher N. Skey is a member of the Environment, Energy & National Resources Practice Group in Clark Hill's Chicago office. For more than 15 years, he has handled complex energy matters on behalf of competitive energy suppliers (electric and natural gas), large commercial, industrial, and governmental energy users, energy cooperatives, public utilities, transmission companies, municipalities, trade groups, developers, lenders, building and facility owners, data centers, “green” energy suppliers, and other energy market participants. He regularly appears before trial and appellate courts and regulatory agencies on a wide variety of energy-related licensing, rulemaking, investigatory, litigation, and other proceedings. He also counsels energy market participants and energy project developers on compliance and strategic planning relating to the regulatory and legal developments affecting their interests and projects.

Chris complements his focus in energy-related matters with a range of experience in environmental, natural resource, constitutional, and commercial matters, including construction, antitrust, securities, insurance, trade secrets, restrictive covenants, employment, fraud, product liability, copyright, contracts, and other business-related matters. In additional to energy companies of all sorts, Chris has represented lenders, accounting firms, financial services firms, universities and research institutions, law firms, pharmaceutical firms, food and beverage firms, engineering firms, industrial manufacturers, construction firms, real estate developers, data centers, airlines, Native American tribes, consultants, marketing firms, insurance companies, small businesses, non-profit organizations, and individuals.

Chris also has great enthusiasm for his pro bono work, providing individual representation to low-income people and local and national non-profit organizations who need and deserve a good lawyer. As part of his commitment to pro bono work, he served in 2013-2014 as the President of Chicago Volunteer Legal Services, the oldest civil pro bono legal services organization in the Chicago area.

In addition to his private practice experience, Chris served as a Judicial Law Clerk to U.S. District Judge Steven D. Merryday, Middle District of Florida, from 2000 to 2003.
