Christopher N. Thatch

Chris Thatch is a commercial litigator who handles complex civil matters. He has particular experience litigating contract disputes and mass tort actions, with a focus on construction and product liability cases. Chris has participated in all phases of litigation, including pretrial investigations, motions practice, taking and defending depositions, examining witnesses at trial, and appeals. He has significant experience dealing with expert witnesses and has counseled and examined experts on a variety of issues, most notably geotechnical engineering, soil mechanics, nicotine addiction, and cancer causation.

Recently, Chris successfully represented the Washington Group International division of URS Corporation in a lawsuit alleging billions of dollars in damages from flooding in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. The federal court entered judgment for Washington Group in April 2013 after three weeks of trial. Chris also represents R.J. Reynolds in a number of product liability cases, including several cases tried to jury verdict in Florida. Chris was a member of the trial team that successfully represented Chrysler in its historic bankruptcy proceedings and in subsequent appeals. He also helped secure a multimillion dollar jury verdict for a coal company seeking return of the unearned portion of a bonus, and he has participated in several construction-related matters dealing with the enforcement of surety bonds.

Chris maintains an active pro bono practice. He has argued on behalf of disabled veterans seeking benefit determinations in administrative hearings before military panels, and he is co-lead counsel in a lawsuit against the Baltimore Police Department alleging Section 1983 violations. Chris is also involved with Jones Day's recruiting and mentoring efforts.
