Christopher S. Crook

Christopher Crook is an associate in the intellectual property litigation group of Venable’s Washington, DC office. His practice focuses on complex litigation, including intellectual property and commercial litigation. Mr. Crook has significant litigation experience in Intellectual Property Rights, including Lanham Act false advertising, state deceptive trade practices, trademark, trade dress, copyright, unfair competition, direct-to-consumer marketing, social networking websites, domain names, affiliate advertising, keyword advertising, and other e-commerce matters.

Mr. Crook is experienced in all phases of the litigation process from initial pleadings, fact and expert discovery, through summary judgment and trial. He has extensive experience drafting motions, including dispositive and discovery papers, and has assisted in successfully bringing and defending against multiple preliminary injunction motions. Mr. Crook has also prepared cases for trial and arbitration and participated in those proceedings.

Mr. Crook is a member of Venable's Advertising and Marketing team, which was selected in 2010 as a recipient of the Chambers USA Award of Excellence and recognized by Legal 500. Mr. Crook is also a member of Venable’s Electronic Discovery Task Force, Anti-Counterfeiting team, and Technology User Group.

Significant Matters
Recent significant matters include:

Assisted in obtaining a preliminary injunction against key competitor for false advertising claims made in the consumer products industry for steam cleaning products.
Successfully prosecuted a contract claim on behalf of an online advertising firm before the American Arbitration Association, resulting in a judgment of approximately one million dollars.
Assisted in successfully obtaining a favorable summary judgment decision of non-infringement for a major construction company’s use of its trademark in relation to one of its competitors.
Continues to advise a major consumer products manufacturer regarding substantiation for its consumer product advertising claims.
