Claire Castles advises clients across the health care industry on compliance strategies and regulatory issues and in proceedings before federal and state government agencies. Her areas of practice include licensing and certification, payment and reimbursement, health privacy, Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA), Medicare conditions of participation, contracting and transactional matters, internal investigations, and government investigations and audits.

Claire's recent experience prior to joining Jones Day includes advising hospitals and a large academic medical center in operational and administrative responses to California Department of Public Health immediate jeopardy and privacy breach findings and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' surveys and deficiency findings, including threatened termination actions. She also has assisted health care clients in responding to Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General audits, recovery audit contractor (RAC) and other program safeguard contractor (PSC) audits, and advising clients on repayments to private payors and the Medicare and Medicaid program.

Claire is a member of the American Bar Association Health Law Section's eSource editorial board. She previously served the section as a vice chair of the Payment and Reimbursement Interest Group (2009), vice chair of the Membership Committee (2000-2009), and member of the Planning and Marketing Committees for Emerging Issues (2003, 2004) and Washington Health Law Summit (2004, 2005).
