Claudia Maria Vetesi

Claudia Vetesi focuses her practice on the defense of consumer class actions, and on complex commercial litigation, including unfair competition, false advertising, privacy issues, contract and licensing disputes, financial services litigation, and trade secrets misappropriation. She regularly counsels clients in the food, retail, financial, and technology industries. She also represents companies in false advertising disputes before the National Advertising Division (NAD) of the Council of Better Business Bureaus, Inc.

Recently, Ms. Vetesi successfully defended a class action lawsuit against a national bank on civil rights discrimination claims. She presented oral argument before the California Court of Appeal, and the case resulted in a published opinion. Ms. Vetesi is also currently defending numerous food and cosmetic manufacturers in class actions and other litigation involving misbranding claims.

In 2013, she completed a secondment in the U.S. commercial law group of a major consumer electronics company.

Ms. Vetesi is also a frequent contributor to the firm’s Private Surgeon General Class Action Defender Blog (www.privatesurgeongeneral.com), which provides case information and industry analysis of false advertising and false labeling class action cases. She has also published articles on class action and false advertising issues.

Ms. Vetesi is active in the firm’s pro bono efforts and has appeared in federal court numerous times on behalf of clients in various criminal matters. She is a member of the American Inns of Court, and a recipient of the State Bar of California’s Wiley W. Manuel Award for public service.

Ms. Vetesi received her J.D. degree in 2004 from Berkeley Law (Boalt Hall School of Law), where she was an associate editor of the Berkeley Technology Law Journal. She also competed twice in the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. During law school, Ms. Vetesi externed for the Honorable John T. Noonan, United States Court of Appeals Judge for the Ninth Circuit, and for Magistrate Judge Joseph C. Spero of the Northern District of California.
