Craig A. Lackey

Partner Craig Lackey concentrates his practice on the representation of consumer lenders and has represented mortgage lenders, auto finance companies and other consumer lenders of all sizes on a nationwide basis. He advises clients on compliance with, and litigation related to, federal, state and local consumer finance regulations.

Most recently, Craig served as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer to Caliber Home Loans, Inc. and established a sophisticated legal, compliance and risk management culture that supported Caliber’s growth from a start up to a mature mid-sized company. During his tenure, the servicing portfolio grew from $4 billion to $70 billion and origination volume increased to more than $20 billion annually.

Craig’s depth of experience and representation includes assisting clients in establishing compliance management systems, fair lending programs and risk management programs. He advises on legal and regulatory compliance issues for whole loan and mortgage servicing rights purchase and sale agreements, including distressed and nonperforming mortgages, and on issues involving licensing compliance, loan representations and warranties, and legal and regulatory risk exposure.

Additional areas of counsel include providing guidance regarding state licensing of non-bank consumer financial services companies and management of regulatory relationships for licensed entities; mergers and acquisitions of mortgage banking companies; and administrative matters before state and federal regulators.

Having first-hand knowledge of investigations, Craig represents clients during state and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) examinations. He counsels clients during actions initiated by the Federal Trade Commission, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Federal Housing Finance Agency and U.S. Department of Justice and state financial regulators and Attorneys General.,

His more than 25-year career includes working as counsel to some of the largest financial services institutions as well as representing startups and smaller companies.
