Darren Cottriel's practice focuses on trials and litigation. He represents business clients in a wide range of matters involving real estate issues, consumer class actions, partnership and joint venture disputes, land development issues, construction and project finance disputes, and trade secret and unfair competition issues. A significant part of his practice involves representing homebuilders & developers, design engineers, and investors in disputes and litigation arising out of major projects. Darren frequently represents large companies in consumer class actions brought under California's Business & Professions Code section 17200 et seq., California Consumer Legal Remedies Act, and common law fraud theories.

Darren has tried numerous cases in state and federal courts and arbitrations. He also represents clients in prelitigation disputes, mediations, and settlement negotiations. Recently, he was one of the lead trial lawyers in a 10-week jury trial in which the Firm defended a national homebuilder in a real estate dispute where the plaintiff sought more than $200 million. He also recently achieved a defense ruling for a national homebuilder in a several day, $22 million arbitration involving joint venture and contract claims.

Prior to joining Jones Day in 2007, Darren was managing partner of the Orange County office of an international law firm where he also chaired that firm's Orange County litigation practice. He serves as the loss prevention partner for Jones Day's Irvine Office. He is a member of the Orange County Association of Business Trial Lawyers.
