David A. Stein

David Stein advises clients on regulatory and compliance matters relating to consumer protection and consumer financial services, with a particular expertise in the federal regulatory framework governing credit reporting, privacy, retail payments systems, consumer credit, fair lending, unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices, deposit accounts, and mortgage origination and servicing.

Drawing upon his combined 13 years of regulatory experience at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Federal Reserve Board, Mr. Stein has helped banks, consumer reporting agencies, non-bank financial services firms, including start-up companies, and trade associations navigate the rapidly evolving consumer protection regulatory environment.

As a senior government regulatory lawyer, Mr. Stein played a key role in developing numerous regulations and regulatory policy in the area of consumer financial protection, for example, regulations addressing credit reporting and retail payments systems. Mr. Stein leverages his insights into the regulatory process to deliver practical advice clients use to make sound strategic, business, and compliance decisions.
