David E. Snyder

David E. Snyder is an associate in the Business Trial Practice Group in the firm's San Francisco office. Before practicing law, he was a newspaper reporter. He worked as a staff writer at the Washington Post, the Dallas Morning News and the Albuquerque Tribune.

Areas of Practice

Mr. Snyder advises newspaper, magazine and Internet clients on legal issues related to privacy, the First Amendment and copyright. He has litigated the right of access to public records under the First Amendment, the California Public Records Act, and the common law right of access. He has experience representing media and individual clients in actions alleging defamation and related claims, and has successfully moved numerous times under California’s anti-SLAPP statute to dismiss complaints alleging defamation and other causes of action.

Mr. Snyder also has substantial experience litigating complex consumer class actions in state and federal court. He has experience defending lenders against putative class actions filed under California's Rees-Levering Act, the Rosenthal Act and the Consumers Legal Remedies Act. He also has experience defending airlines in both state and federal court against putative consumer class actions predicated on state-law claims, and defending insurers in “force-placed” lending putative consumer class actions.

Mr. Snyder also has significant appellate experience, and has briefed and argued cases before the California Court of Appeal involving California’s anti-SLAPP statute and access to public records under the California Public Records Act.
