David J. Shapiro’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, including disputes concerning the licensing and implementation of system-wide software systems, partnership law, hedge fund litigation, bankruptcy litigation, lender liability, securities, and corporate governance. He has represented corporations, partnerships, trustees, investment firms, and individuals in litigation in state and federal courts throughout the country and before arbitration panels.

David has extensive court experience, including having served as first chair representing companies and individuals in numerous cases. For example, David has argued dispositive motions on behalf of a trust before the Bankruptcy and District Courts for the Western District of New York, and he was a lead attorney in a death penalty habeas corpus trial in Alabama. For his pro bono work, David was recognized for his “exceptional representation” of a state inmate by the Legal Aid Society of New York. David was also the author of an amicus curiae brief to the United State Supreme Court in a case involving the First Amendment and obscenity on internet cable programs.

David is currently representing a plaintiff in a software implementation action against IBM, and a high net worth invididual plaintiff in a commercial fraud action.
