Doreen Leavens Costa

Doreen Costa represents clients in trademark, trade dress, domain name, copyright, and false advertising litigation in federal and state courts and in the United States Patent and Trademark Office. She also regularly handles the negotiation of licenses, contract disputes and due diligence reviews.

Ms. Costa is involved in every aspect of trademark and copyright policing and enforcement on the Internet. Her broad experience also includes taking part in the seizure of counterfeit designer fragrances and other goods throughout the New York metropolitan area. In addition, she renders advice on state and federal regulation of contests and sweepstakes, advertising review and claim substantiation as well as travel law.

Ms. Costa previously served as an adjunct professor at Hofstra University School of Law, where she taught trademark law. She has written extensively on trademarks and copyrights, and has lectured on revisions to the trademark statutes, works-for-hire under the copyright laws, and the nuts and bolts of trademark and copyright practice, expert testimonies and consumer surveys, domain name issues, cyberpiracy and trade dress protection, for both lawyers and business people.
