Douglas Barnes

Douglas Barnes is an associate in the New York office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and is a member of Gibson Dunn’s Strategic Sourcing and Technology Practice Group.

Mr. Barnes’ practice focuses on the outsourcing of business and technology services, as well as corporate and other transactions relating to outsourcing and technology. Additionally, he advises clients on copyright and trademark licensing, privacy and data security law, and the regulation of financial services outsourcing.

Prior to attending law school, Mr. Barnes had a fifteen-year career in the information technology field that progressed from developing banking and accounting software to co-founding security software company C2Net (now part of Red Hat). During this time he also worked as a systems programmer for IBM, was Vice President of Consulting at Securify/Kroll-O’Gara and co-founded IO.com, one of the first commercial Internet Service Providers.

Mr. Barnes received a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities from the University of Texas with highest honors and special honors, a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Colorado State University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas with high honors, where he served as an Articles Editor for the Texas Law Review and was elected to Chancellors and to the Order of the Coif. He is admitted to practice law in the State of New York.
