Edward D. Nelson is a partner in the New York office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. He is a member of the Investment Funds Practice Group.
Mr. Nelson’s practice focuses on the organization and operation of private investment funds. He has represented a wide variety of private investment funds, including buyout funds, venture capital funds, real estate funds, secondary funds, distressed funds, international funds and hedge funds. Mr. Nelson also represents institutional investors in their private investment fund and other alternative investment activities; and he has significant experience in issues relating to the Securities Act, the Investment Company Act and the Investment Advisers Act.
Mr. Nelson is ranked nationally as a leading lawyer for Investment Funds: Private Equity Funds in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, Chambers Global: The World’s Leading Lawyers for Business and he appeared in The Legal 500 United States edition.
His investment fund clients include Credit Suisse, Graham Partners, Inverness Graham Investments, J.H. Whitney Capital Partners, JRK Property Holdings, Kuwait Investment Authority, Meadow Partners, Neuberger Berman Alternative Investments (formerly Lehman Brothers), NewWorld Capital Group, Olympus Partners and Pinebridge Investments.
Mr. Nelson was a member of the Committee on Private Investment Funds of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York from 2003–2011. He earned his Juris Doctor cum laude, in 1994 from Harvard Law School and his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in 1989 from Dartmouth College. Mr. Nelson also holds a Master of Public Policy from Harvard University and a Master of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge.
