Ed Carter's practice includes both the defense of individual consumer and product liability cases and the prosecution and defense of other complex commercial cases. His experience spans all stages of litigation, including drafting dispositive motions, evidentiary motions, and motions to exclude experts; taking and defending the depositions of fact witnesses, expert witnesses, and corporate representatives; negotiating settlements; preparing witnesses for trial; cross-examining witnesses at trial; drafting and arguing jury instructions and verdict forms; drafting post-trial and appellate motions; and coordinating multijurisdictional litigation with the assistance of local counsel. Ed has worked with expert witnesses in a broad range of areas, including physicians, economists, historians, marketing and advertising professionals, and engineers specializing in accident reconstruction. In addition, he has been a member of more than one dozen trial teams in high-profile jury cases tried to verdict, highlighted by successful representations of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. Most recently, Ed served as trial counsel for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in an Engle progeny case in Florida.
Prior to attending law school, Ed spent three years playing professional tennis on the ITF and ATP tours. He used this experience to transition into a coaching career at the University of Texas, where he served as an assistant coach of the women's team while attending law school.
Ed currently serves as a member of the Firm's Diversity Task Force. He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and is active in the Columbus community.
