Edwin L. Fountain

Edwin Fountain has tried cases in state and federal courts throughout the country, covering an array of corporate litigation matters such as criminal defense, civil fraud investigations, D&O liability, employment discrimination, securities fraud, and patents and trademarks. Edwin has a particular focus in antitrust litigation, including several multidistrict class actions, in industries including health care, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, power generation, travel, publication paper, and tobacco. He also leads the Firm's practice in the Eastern District of Virginia's "rocket docket" and Virginia courts.

Edwin currently represents JPMorgan Chase in a "Winstar" government contract case arising from the 1980s savings & loan crisis, in which he obtained a $356 million judgment that he successfully defended on appeal in the Federal Circuit. He is counsel for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in several federal and state price-fixing actions, in which he obtained summary judgment in the lead federal case. Most recently he won dismissal of takings and other claims brought against the Kingdom of Belgium; represented the CEO of Mills Corporation in a securities litigation matter; and defended the artist Shepard Fairey against copyright infringement claims involving the well-known "Obama Hope" poster.

Edwin is a member of the U.S. World War I Centennial Commission, and a founder of the World War I Memorial Foundation. He is a member of Leadership Arlington, sits on the Arlington Commission for the Arts, and chairs the board of Bowen McCauley Dance Company. He is past president of the DC Preservation League, the leading historic preservation nonprofit in the nation's capital.
