Emily earned degrees in Politics and American Studies from Pomona College in 2003, where she planned campus-wide events on behalf of the Office of the Vice President and the college’s Social Committee. She exercised her artistic talents as president of the college’s elite chamber singing ensemble, performing with the group and planning tours to the Pacific Northwest, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C.

Emily went on to Stanford Law School, earning her degree in 2006. There she continued to foster her love of event planning, chairing the Law Association Social Committee and planning various social events for the student body. She also co-chaired the Silent Auction Committee for the law school’s Publict Interest Law Foundation annual auction, raising over $40,000. Since law school Emily has worked at three premiere law firms in the bay area as a civil litigator. She also participates in San Francisco’s Volunteer Legal Services Program, assisting those in need with issues in the area of family law.

In starting Downey Street Events with Lauren in 2009, Emily saw an opportunity to work in a new industry, doing something that she loves and that has always come naturally to her. She especially enjoys using her design skills in helping clients turn their visions into reality. As a lover of all things design-sewing-crafting-decorating related, she finds that event planning allows her to combine all of her various interests and use them in a way that brings a lot of happiness to people at one of the most important points in their lives. Her favorite thing about planning weddings is standing back and watching everyone enjoy great food, beautiful decor, and good music at the end of the night!
