Emma C. Mata

Emma Mata is a partner in the Commercial Litigation and Health Care practice groups of the Houston office of Seyfarth Shaw LLP. With over 10 years’ experience as a trial lawyer, she has tried several cases to verdict in Texas state and federal courts.

Mrs. Mata represents businesses and individuals in commercial lawsuits and disputes. In addition to serving as trial counsel in lawsuits, she also counsels clients on pre-suit resolutions and negotiations. Her clients include both businesses and individuals in a variety of industries, including energy, healthcare, corporate, and financial.

Mrs. Mata also represents physicians and other licensed health care professionals in administrative proceedings before state licensing boards. She started her practice defending doctors, hospitals, and health care personnel in medical malpractice lawsuits, which has provided her with a strong background in analyzing potential risk for hospitals, physicians, and medical practices.

Mrs. Mata is an active member of the Seyfarth Shaw organization. She serves as a member of the firm’s National SOX Whistleblower Team and is also the leader of the firm’s Houston office Diversity Action Team. Emma is dedicated to her pro bono practice, and represents children in immigration proceedings through the KIND (Kids in Need of Defense) organization. In February 2012, Mrs. Mata was selected as Pro Bono Attorney of the Month by the KIND organization for her work in helping three young siblings find care and protection in the United States. In addition to this accolade, she was prominently featured in April 2012 by NBC Latino for her extensive Pro Bono work with KIND and her dedication to the Houston, Texas community.
