Erik B. Milch

Erik Milch is a partner in the Patent Counseling & Prosecution practice group and a member of the Cooley Litigation department. He joined the Firm in 2000 and maintains offices in Reston and Palo Alto.

Mr. Milch's practice focuses on the representation of clients in connection with patent litigation and strategic patent counseling.

Mr. Milch's technical experience includes technologies such as medical devices, life sciences instrumentation systems and software, haptic feedback systems, sports equipment, computer software, consumer products, retaining wall systems, fluid mechanics applications, water purification systems, automotive engines and mechanical and electrical components, aerospace propulsion and control systems, weapons systems, telecommunications and signal processing.

Mr. Milch's professional experience includes patent litigation, including enforcement of patents against competitors, and defense of patent infringement allegations, patent procurement, strategic counseling regarding the development of patent portfolios, patent licensing, valuation of patent portfolios in business transactions and transactional diligence.

Mr. Milch has been recognized as one of the top patent attorneys in the country on multiple occasions. In 2012 and 2013, he was selected to Intellectual Asset Management's (IAM) Patent 1000 list, an honor that recognizes the best IP and licensing attorneys in the world. Mr. Milch was lauded in the most recent edition of IAM Patent 1000 for his "incredibly safe pair of hands" in connection with his patent work. The Washingtonian also honored him in 2011 and 2013, when it selected him for its exclusive "Top Lawyers" list.

Prior to law school, Mr. Milch was a U.S. Naval Officer. During his tenure with the Navy, he served as a Naval Aviation Support Officer at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Keflavik, Iceland and with Air Test and Evaluation Squadron One in Patuxent River, Maryland.

Mr. Milch received his law degree from the George Mason University School of Law in 1999. Mr. Milch received his Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1993 where he was the Naval Reserve Officer Association Honor Graduate.

Mr. Milch is admitted to practice in New York, Virginia and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
