Frederick A. Fromm, Jr. is Senior Counsel in Dykema's Detroit office. Fred retired from General Motors August, 2015 after serving 38 years on the GM Legal Staff. From 2012 to 2015, Fred served as VP and General Counsel of GM International Operations (based in Shanghai and then Singapore). Prior to assuming this position, he was Associate General Counsel of GM responsible for the Legal Staff’s global process teams, which consist of lawyers from each of GM’s four regions around the world organized by legal subject matter areas. He was also responsible for coordination with the Legal Staff at GM Financial, GM’s auto finance subsidiary. Prior to this assignment, Fred was Assistant General Counsel responsible for legal affairs for GM North America.

After law school, Fred clerked for Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Michael J. Kelly. After joining the GM Legal Staff, he practiced environmental law related to air and water pollution issues and solid and hazardous waste issues involving GM's manufacturing plants in numerous states and Mexico. He worked on consumer law and dealer franchise law issues, including dealer network planning legal matters. He has commercial transaction experience and bankruptcy law experience as lead counsel for GM on the Delphi bankruptcy and, at the initial stages, on the GM bankruptcy. He has international law experience, including compliance and FCPA issues.
