Frederick H. Colen

Fred is a member of and was former head of the Intellectual Property Group. During his 30+ years at Reed Smith, he has been heavily involved in numerous U.S. and foreign patent, trademark, copyright and other related intellectual property litigations. He is also regularly involved in licensing of proprietary technology and know-how, both in the United States and abroad.

He has also been appointed to act as a Special Master to the Court in patent infringement matters in the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and to act as a mediator in patent, trademark and copyright disputes.

Fred is a past president and a current board member of The TechLaw Group, an international network of twenty U.S. and foreign law firms collectively having more than 7000 lawyers. The TechLaw Group member firms are committed to serving the legal needs of businesses, institutions and individuals involved with technology, and they meet on a regular basis to discuss a variety of national and international intellectual property and technology issues.

He is also very active in events sponsored by the intellectual property community. In addition, he has authored a number of articles and is a frequent lecturer to both businesses and educational institutions.
