Frederick S. Chung



Fred Chung is a partner in the Palo Alto office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, where his practice focuses on intellectual property litigation. He has represented a wide range of high-tech companies, including software, electronics, telecommunications, biotech, and medical device companies, in the U.S. District Courts, the International Trade Commission, and the Federal Circuit.

Recent patent and trade secret litigation engagements include matters for St. Jude Medical, Medtronic, T-Mobile USA, MetroPCS, Cricket Communications, AT&T Mobility, CDW, and Sharp Corporation. Mr. Chung has successfully tried cases and has been named a “Future Litigation Star” in the 2010-2013 editions of Euromoney Institutional Investor's Benchmark Litigation.

He is also actively involved in pro bono work and serves as the Pro Bono Coordinator in Gibson Dunn's Palo Alto office. In 1998, he received the State Bar of California’s Wiley W. Manuel Pro Bono Legal Services Award, and in 2007, he received a Pro Bono Advocate Award from Legal Services for Children in San Francisco. In 2008, he joined the Board of Directors of the Pro Bono Project, Silicon Valley.

Mr. Chung recently completed a two-year term as the Overseas President of the International Association of Korean Lawyers (2009-2011), and he is a former officer of the Korean-American Bar Association of Northern California. In 2008, he was named one of the "Best Lawyers Under 40" by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Chung received his A.B. and J.D. degrees from Harvard University in 1991 and 1995. Following his graduation from law school, he was a law clerk for the Honorable Karen Nelson Moore of the United States Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit. Before joining the Firm in 2003, he practiced intellectual property litigation and insurance coverage litigation at Morrison & Foerster in San Francisco.
