Garret Filler’s clients are primarily managers of start-up and established hedge funds and private equity funds, as well as family offices, banks, and broker-dealers.

Garret assists clients in the formation of investment management firms and pooled investment vehicles; compliance with the regulations of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and with the rules of the National Futures Association (NFA); and in the negotiation of trading and credit agreements, including Prime Brokerage Agreements, Futures Commission Merchant (FCM) Agreements, Master Repurchase Agreements (MRAs), Global Master Repurchase Agreements (GMRAs), and ISDA agreements.

Prior to rejoining Cadwalader in 2016, Garret worked at several of the world’s largest and most reputable hedge fund managers, including Citadel, D.E. Shaw, and for nearly a decade as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Ellington Management Group.

Garret received his J.D. from Cornell Law School, and served as a student law clerk for Judge Thomas McAvoy of the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York. He received his B.S. with Distinction (highest honors) from Cornell University. Garret is admitted to practice in New York.
