Gary represents major national and select regional banks and national commercial lenders on sophisticated syndicated and non-syndicated asset-based, cash flow, investment-grade, second-lien and other commercial loans made to businesses across a broad spectrum of industries. He also has extensive experience handling related workouts and bankruptcy matters. While highly experienced in all phases of commercial lending, he has developed particular depth in loans to healthcare providers, oil and gas producers and refiners, and agriculture-related businesses, including farming, wineries and canning facilities. With regard to healthcare-related loans, Gary represents many of the leading banks and commercial lenders specializing in loans to a variety of healthcare providers including, profit and not-for-profit hospitals, outpatient facilities, outpatient surgery and imaging centers.
In more than 30 years of practice, Gary has handled hundreds of high-value and high-dollar loan transactions, chiefly in the $15 million to $500 million range, as well as several hundred out-of-court workouts and Chapter 11 cases. He has held leadership positions in a number of professional associations, including serving as president and treasurer of the Financial Lawyers Conference of California and as chair of the Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He has also served on the Uniform Commercial Code and Debtor-Creditor Committees of the California State Bar.
Gary is a frequent guest lecturer for business and professional groups. In addition to teaching a multiday course on workouts and bankruptcy and a course on asset-based lending on behalf of the Commercial Finance Association, he also has chaired commercial law update programs for the Commercial Finance Conference of California.
Gary was a member of the Thurston Society for Academic Excellence at the University of California, Hastings College of Law.
