George J. Moscarino

George Moscarino's criminal defense and white-collar practice involves complex criminal litigation and government and grand jury investigations. His practice is international in scope, and he has been frequently involved in matters in Europe, Asia, and the United States.

George has extensive experience in representing corporations, their management, boards of directors, and employees in criminal matters. He was lead counsel for General Motors Corporation and obtained a court-ordered dismissal in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit of a federal tax grand jury investigation of the auto maker because of U.S. government commingling of a civil and criminal grand jury investigation.

He also represented the J.C. Penney Company in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and won dismissal of a U.S. Customs grand jury investigation because of misconduct of the Department of Justice prosecutor. George has represented clients in many high-profile criminal investigations and cases and, immediately after the overthrow of the Marcos government, successfully represented the Philippine National Bank, a bank of the Philippine government, in a state and federal criminal banking investigation. He also won dismissal in a nationally publicized jury trial of criminal charges brought against Rite Aid Drug Stores, the nations second largest drugstore chain, and its president for alleged bribery of an Ohio State Pharmacy Board member.

In addition, George has considerable experience in civil fraud, general business, and commercial litigation, including intellectual property, product liability, tort, environmental, and government contract litigation. He has also successfully represented U.S. professional sports teams, leagues, and players in high-profile sports contract, labor, and antitrust-related matters and litigation. Sports entities he has represented include the Orlando Magic, Cleveland Cavaliers, San Diego Sharks, Cleveland Crusaders, World Hockey Association, and the World Football League.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and is a member of the ABA (Criminal Justice and Litigation Sections). He is a past member and served as chairman of the Grand Jury Committee of the ABA. In 1986, he was named special adviser to that committee. He was a member of the ABA Criminal Justice Section Council from 1984 to 1988 and is presently a member of the White Collar Crime Committee of the ABA's Criminal Justice Section. He is a member of the International Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association. George is a Charter and life member of the Ohio Eighth District Judicial Conference and has been admitted to the Society of Benchers of Case Western Reserve University School of Law.

He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Sixth and Federal Circuits, and the United States Supreme Court.

George is an active lecturer, both nationally and internationally, on civil and criminal litigation techniques and white-collar crimes practice and also has published papers and articles on those subjects in the U.S., Canada, England, and Japan. He has been listed in the criminal litigation section of The Best Lawyers in America and also listed as an "Ohio Super Lawyer." He is listed in Chambers USA 2004 edition as recommended in litigation and as a leader in representing individuals and corporations in white-collar crime and government investigations. George has been recently selected and listed in the legal business crime section of the 2005 edition of the International Who's Who of Business Lawyers.
