Bud led the McGuireWoods litigation practice from 1992 to 1999. He now heads the firm’s education practice team and is a member of its nonprofit organizations and healthcare litigation teams.
Bud practices primarily in the areas of higher education, complex commercial litigation and healthcare litigation. He has appeared in the courts of more than a dozen states, and has tried numerous cases in the areas of securities and corporate issues, antitrust, contract issues, commercial torts, fiduciary duty, tenure, academic freedom, student conduct, trademarks and trade dress, trade secrets, defamation, fraud, athletics, campus police issues, public finance, tax, health insurance coverage, commercial insurance coverage, Medicaid, university accreditation, art and museum law, construction, employment, spoliation of evidence and other types of disputes. He has handled appeals, arbitrations and mediations. He is an outside professor in the higher education practicum at Washington & Lee University School of Law.
