Gregory A. Castanias

Greg Castanias is an appellate and intellectual property litigator with extensive Supreme Court and Federal Circuit advocacy experience. He heads Jones Day's Federal Circuit practice.

Greg's experience includes several arguments and appearances before the U.S. Supreme Court, as well as more than 40 arguments and approximately 150 appearances before the Federal Circuit, including some of the most pathbreaking cases in recent years. He also has argued several cases before the other federal courts of appeals and in state supreme courts from Alaska to Connecticut.

His intellectual property experience includes patents in virtually all technologies, from genetics, diagnostics, and pharmaceuticals to the chemical, electronic, and mechanical fields, as well as copyright disputes. He has been recognized with honors from Chambers, Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, Law360, LMG, Legal 500, IAM, and many other independent publications.

Greg also has significant experience in state-tax disputes before the U.S. Supreme Court and state appellate courts.

In recent years, Greg has represented Abbott, Apple, ARRIS, Chevron, DePuy Spine, DIRECTV, Eastman Chemical, Fenwal, Histogen, Huawei, IBM, Illumina, LabCorp, Limited Brands, MathWorks, Myriad Genetics, Pfizer, Procter & Gamble, Purdue Pharma, SanDisk, SAP, SAS Institute, Sinochem, Skullcandy, Tesoro, Transocean, and Visa.

The Legal 500 says that Greg is "known for a strong Federal Circuit-oriented practice," is "a sharp and effective advocate who picks up the details of the matter quickly," and "a great issue-spotter and skilled advocate." And the IAM Patent 1000 says that Greg has "an instinctual feel for the art of persuasion before the Federal Circuit, where he is highly respected."
