Gregory J. Kerwin

Gregory J. Kerwin is a litigation partner in Gibson Dunn's Denver office, experienced in handling major trials and appeals. He served as Partner-in-Charge of the Gibson Dunn Denver office from 1998 to 2003. Mr. Kerwin is among an elite list of lawyers across the country named to the 2006 BTI Client Service All-Star list by 200 corporate counsel at large and Fortune 1000 companies for delivering the best client service to their clients. He is ranked in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business as a leading litigation lawyer. In 2012 and 2013, Chambers USA recognized Mr. Kerwin in the area of Litigation: General Commerical.

Mr. Kerwin handles complex commercial disputes in trial and appellate courts with emphasis on securities, antitrust, and business tort and contract disputes. He has served as lead or second-chair in approximately 20 jury trials, bench trials, and arbitrations, and has argued and briefed many cases in the Colorado appellate courts, Tenth Circuit and Ninth Circuit. Besides extensive work in state and federal court in Colorado, Mr. Kerwin has represented clients in trial courts in 17 other states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Idaho, Kentucky, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming.

Through his litigation work, Mr. Kerwin has become familiar with diverse industries including: oil and gas exploration, production, and pipelines; coal and gold mining; telecommunications; satellite television; avionics; investment banking; accounting; financial services; commercial lending; insurance; computer software and hardware; car rental; wholesale food distribution; restaurants; trucking and truck stops; medicine; emergency medical services; and health care.

Mr. Kerwin graduated magna cum laude from the Duke University School of Law in 1984. He served as Editor-in-Chief of the Duke Law Journal from 1983 to 1984, and worked as a law clerk for Judge James K. Logan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit from 1984 to 1985. Mr. Kerwin received his bachelor's degree in history from Colorado College, where he graduated magna cum laude in 1981.

Mr. Kerwin wrote chapters on appellate standards of review and preparing certiorari petitions in A. Gill, Colorado Appellate Law and Practice (West 2d ed. 2007). He co-chaired seminars on Colorado appellate practice in 1997 and 1999 and was a speaker or moderator on Colorado appellate practice at programs in 2001, 2003, and 2005. He and a Gibson Dunn colleague co-authored the chapter on Tenth Circuit practice for the forthcoming American Bar Association Council of Appellate Lawyers’ treatise, The Insiders Guide to State and Federal Appellate Courts (2011). He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of the Tenth Circuit Historical Society. He has served on Colorado Bar Association committees and also as a member of the board of trustees of Historic Denver, Inc. and Alliance Française de Denver.
