Gregory R. Jones is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s Los Angeles office. Defending a physician group and management services organization in a class action brought under California Business and Professions Code Section 17200 for alleged violations of the Knox-Keene Health Care Service Plan Act of 1975.
Defended a health care provider in a class action for alleged violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) involving an alleged fraudulent marketing scheme and off-label usage of a pharmaceutical.
Represented a health care provider in a lawsuit against a repricing company for false advertising under the Lanham Act and other business torts.
Represented health care providers and hospitals in lawsuits and arbitration matters against physicians and physician practices involving claims for breach of contract, unfair competition, and other business torts.

False Claims Act Defense

Defending a health care provider in a qui tam lawsuit brought under the Federal False Claims Act (FCA) and Massachusetts FCA involving alleged false billing practices related to the licensure and supervision of mental health care employees.
Defended a health care provider in a qui tam lawsuit brought under the Federal FCA involving alleged false billing practices and violations of the Federal Anti-Kickback Statute arising out of the administration of a pharmaceutical.
Defended a health care provider in a qui tam lawsuit brought under the California False FCA involving alleged false billing practices arising out of the administration of special needs schools in California.
Defended a company in a qui tam lawsuit brought under the California FCA involving alleged false billing practices arising out of the sale of body armor.

Class Action Defense

Defending members of the board of directors of a publicly-traded bank in a securities fraud class action.
Defended directors and officers of a publicly-traded company in a securities fraud class action involving allegations of illegal stock options backdating.
Defended a company in a series of class actions brought under the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act involving allegations of “slamming” and “cramming” of telephone services.

Intellectual Property Litigation

Defended a motion picture studio, writer/director, and production company in a copyright infringement lawsuit involving a major motion picture.
Represented a company in obtaining a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction against a large video game manufacturer for trade secret misappropriation arising out of the development of a video game.
Defended a motion picture studio in a trademark and copyright infringement lawsuit against a company that was manufacturing clothing featuring images and slogans from a successful motion picture.
Prosecuted a series of copyright infringement lawsuits on behalf of motion picture studios against internet websites that provide links to streaming copies of motion pictures and television shows over the internet.

Other Relevant Background

While in law school, Greg was the editor-in-chief of the Georgetown Law Journal’s Annual Review of Criminal Procedure. Greg also served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Paul L. Friedman, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
