Dr. Passananti is a member of the team defending Dow and its affiliates, notably Mycogen Corporation, Mycogen Plant Science, and Agrigenetics, in a number of ongoing cases involving the enforcement of patent rights at the leading edge of applied molecular biology. The technology at issue includes specific DNA sequences, methods for making genes and inserting them into plant cells and plants that are engineered to exhibit commercially useful traits, such as insect resistance or herbicide resistance.
Dr. Passananti was a member of the Orrick trial team defending Intel in a patent infringement suit involving parallel processing technology. BIAX accused Intel's products, including Pentium® 4 and Itanium® processors, of infringing four patents. After a jury had been selected and just 30 minutes before opening statements were scheduled to begin, the case settled.

Additionally, Dr. Passananti has worked for more than five years as a scientific researcher and teaching assistant for undergraduate courses at UCI.
