Heather King

Heather King’s practice is focused on counseling companies and individuals facing complex legal disputes, including controversies involving actual or threatened civil or criminal litigation, congressional or regulatory inquiries, and related media attention. Ms. King’s experience in high profile litigation and crisis management contributes to her strong background in media relations.

Representative matters at the firm include:

Government, legal and media strategy and execution for a U.S. financial institution in its defense of a multibillion dollar claim filed by a foreign government in its court system. The case was successfully settled for less than 1 percent of the claimed damages.
Simultaneous U.S. and international justice department investigations of a leading U.S. company ultimately resulting in no adverse government action.
A subject of the investigation by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform into political targeting by the IRS.
Drafting and working with legislatures to pass state and local laws.
Strategic and legal counsel to various executives and in-house counsel related to federal and state government inquiries, civil and criminal legal disputes, and the media. Representative clients include Barclays, Detroit International Bridge Company, New York Yankees, CBS, C.V. Starr & Co., Goldman Sachs, Northwest Airlines, and DuPont and Pioneer about issues related to the legislative process, congressional testimony, congressional investigations, responding to government subpoenas, and engagement with federal government agencies.

Ms. King’s work has involved not only the courtroom, but also engagement with various branches of the U.S. and foreign governments, and working with Congressional members and Executive branch officials, including officials at the U.S. Department of Justice, Securities and Exchange Commission, Food and Drug Administration, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on behalf of firm clients.

Prior to rejoining the firm in 2016, Ms. King served as General Counsel of Theranos Inc., where she was responsible for envisioning and leading an integrated, strategic crisis response to high-profile and overlapping civil, criminal, and regulatory inquiries, federal and state government relations, and response to intense media attention at the emerging health care technology company.
