Helene R. Hechtkopf

Helene R. Hechtkopf joined Hoguet Newman Regal & Kenney, LLP, in 2008. During her time at the firm, she has been involved in a wide range of litigation (both commercial and employment); appellate litigation; white collar criminal matters; representation of individuals in investigations by FINRA and other regulatory agencies; and internal investigations. Ms. Hechtkopf’s recent engagements include:

Representing a state agency in a multimillion dollar software and construction litigation against a defense contractor in the Southern District of New York, culminating in a five week bench trial.
Representing an international testing company in a class action litigation brought in the District of Puerto Rico involving an oil facility explosion.
Successfully concluded a bench trial in the Southern District of New York on a multimillion dollar claim involving disputed ownership of property.
Won summary judgment on behalf of a state agency in an employment discrimination case brought in the Southern District of New York.

Successfully representing an officer and head US dollar swaps trader at a major international bank in an investigation by the Department of Justice, the Commodities Futures Trading Commission and other regulating agencies into the setting of LIBOR Rates.
Representing the head energy trader of a major international bank in a FINRA investigation into the receipt and use of rumor/inside information subsequently found to be untrue.
Submitted a brief on behalf of a foreign energy company to the New York State Court of Appeals.
Successfully represented a state agency in a criminal mental health proceeding.
Successfully represented an international testing company in a case brought in New York State court for breach of contract.
Won summary judgment on a claim brought against a state agency by an employee under the Federal Employers Liability Act. Ortiz v. MTA, 2013 WL 55990 (S.D.N.Y. Jan. 4, 2013).

Ms. Hechtkopf is an active member of the New York State Bar Association’s Committee on New York’s Civil Procedure Law and Rules, which monitors the state of, and proposed amendments to, New York’s procedural law. She is a member of the American Bar Association’s Litigation Section and its Trial Evidence committee, where she has been involved in analyzing the use of the Daubert standard by various state courts.

Ms. Hechtkopf was previously a litigation associate at Heller Ehrman LLP in New York. Helene is a graduate of the University of Virginia (B.A. with High Distinction). She is admitted to practice in the State of New York, State of New Jersey, and the United States District Courts for the Southern District of New York and Eastern District of New York and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Ms. Hechtkopf graduated in 2007 from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, cum laude, where she was a member of the Order of the Coif, Associate Editor of the Cardozo Law Review and Dean’s Distinguished Scholar.
