Helfried Schwarz is a partner in the New York office of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy and a member of the firm's Transportation and Space Finance Group. A partner since 1999, he was the partner in charge of the firm’s Frankfurt office from 2001 through 2005.

Mr. Schwarz focuses mainly on aircraft and other structured equipment financings. He has particular expertise in domestic and cross-border leveraged lease transactions; pre-delivery payment and warehouse facilities; aircraft acquisitions and dispositions; enhanced equipment trust certificate offerings; aircraft portfolio securitizations; airline bankruptcies and restructurings; and export credit agency-supported financings.

Mr. Schwarz has consistently been ranked in the “Band 1” tier of both aviation finance and equipment finance and leasing lawyers in Chambers USA. He has been recommended for aviation law in Legal Media Group's The Best of the Best as well as their Guide to the World's Leading Aviation Lawyers. He has also been recognized as a leading practitioner in The Legal 500 United States, New York Super Lawyers, The International Who's Who of Aviation Lawyers and The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers. He is fluent in German.

Mr. Schwarz is a member of the Legal Advisory Panel to the Aviation Working Group and is co-author of the Practitioners' Guide to the Cape Town Convention and The Aircraft Protocol.

Mr. Schwarz serves on the board of directors of the NYU Law Alumni Association.
