Howard E. Cotton is a recent former member of the firm’s Board of Directors and both the National Compensation and Executive Committees. He has more than 30 years of experience in a range of major commercial litigation matters, handling the most complex and significant cases for a broad-based and substantial roster of clients.

Howard is lead counsel in trials and appeals in state and federal courts in New York and throughout the United States, as well as in arbitration and mediation proceedings. His varied litigation practice encompasses virtually all types of business disputes spanning numerous industries and covers a broad spectrum of issues, including breach of contract, business torts, Uniform Commercial Code, partnership and corporate shareholder disputes, real estate, securities and common law fraud and breach of fiduciary duty.

He is also routinely called upon to provide crucial counseling, including strategizing and problem solving to avoid litigation and to promote the settlement of protracted litigation through alternative dispute resolution. Among Howard’s diverse client base are many leading financial institutions, including investment banks and hedge funds, as well as public and private companies and their senior officers, foreign governments, trade associations, high net worth families, entrepreneurs and investors. He is also experienced in New York state real estate litigation, representing developers, management and hospitality companies and banks.
