Ryan Gilfoil is a senior associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property Group. His practice focuses on intellectual property litigation. Mr. Gilfoil has represented clients in patent litigation and complex commercial litigation involving a wide range of subject matters including computer-aided design software, online advertising, online banking, credit card processing, cellular phones, pharmaceuticals and television set-top boxes. Mr. Gilfoil has successfully argued Markman hearings, taken and defended numerous fact and expert depositions, and, with team, won summary judgment of non-infringement and invalidity (affirmed on appeal) Mr. Gilfoil also has substantial experience with both ex parte and inter partes reexaminations.
Before law school, Mr. Gilfoil was a software engineer developing financial reporting software and web-based applications at NetSuite and several start-ups in the Boston area. Mr. Gilfoil has also worked at Morgan Stanley as a software development intern. Before his software engineering career, Mr. Gilfoil was an investment banking analyst at Lehman Brothers, where he executed and modeled financial transactions and asset valuations in the consumer, industrial, and automotive sectors.
Mr. Gilfoil earned his J.D., with Law & Technology Certificate, from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where he was named to the Order of the Coif, was a member of the California Law Review, and was an editor of the Berkeley Technology Law Journal. Mr. Gilfoil earned his A.B. cum laude in computer science from Dartmouth College.
