J. Laurens Wilkes

Laurens Wilkes' practice focuses on complex civil litigation in state and federal courts. He represents clients in the construction, software, and financial industries and has taken a lead role in breach of contract, copyright, eminent domain, products liability, and tort matters as well as internal and governmental investigations. Laurens has jury trial experience, including as a core trial team member in a significant five-week trial, and he has handled numerous hearings and led matters through all phases of litigation, including appeals. He routinely focuses and advises on complex evidentiary issues and state and federal procedural rules and practices.

Laurens' experience includes work for ABM Industries, Babcock Power, Battelle Memorial Institute, Bechtel Corporation, Bombardier, CECO Environmental, Community Trust Bank, Dresser-Rand, IBM, Johnson Electric, Occidental Chemical Corporation, SAP, and Standard Insurance Company. He also implements and manages e-discovery policies and practices for clients around the globe related to major multiparty and multiforum litigation.

Laurens is an advisory board member for the Institute for Energy Law and a member of the Construction Law Sections of the American Bar Association and State Bar of Texas, the Eastern District of Texas Bar Association, the Bar Association of the Fifth Circuit, and the State Bar College of Texas. He is active in the Houston Bar Association, having served as a co-chair of the Special Olympics Committee and a member of the Administration of Justice Committee, the United Way, and the Tufts Alumni Admissions Program.
